Kierstin Barney

Kierstin Barney

Two years & counting and an addict at day one... this Wheeler packs a punch. To say Kierstin loves Tidal Wheel is an understatement. "I love music, I love dancing and I love a good, hard work out. In all of the years I have been exposed to group exercise, TidalWheel is the only workout I continuously leave on an adrenaline high." With a master's in public health and certified in group exercise, Kierstin naturally has the best interest of her riders’ health at heart.  Born and raised in Van Wert, Ohio and an alum for none other than The Ohio State University, RVA has quickly become a second home but don't expect her to be rooting for the Rams or Hokies anytime soon!  When Kierstin is off the bike you can find her attempting to be a "foodie",  DIY-ing, thrift store shopping, or spontaneously on a new adventure with friends.

Kim McKnight

Kim McKnight

Kim spends her days inspiring and educating students and teachers as she pursues her PhD in Educational Psychology at VCU. But when that bell rings, she ditches those little cuties, jumps onto the Tidal Wheel instructor bike and schools the rest of us. Kim’s high energy and positive motivation keeps her riders eager to learn more. Kim brings to Tidal Wheel her belief that focus, clarity, and the mind-body connection are the perfect partner to a high-energy cycle class. And we believe her -- Kim is STOTT Pilates certified. Twelve years of teaching indoor cycling has convinced her that the hardest part is getting there! When Kim is not torching calories on the bike, she is having fun with her son and husband.

Joanna Callaway

Joanna Callaway

As one of Tidal Wheel’s original riders, Joanna fell in love with the bike somewhere in the middle of a tapback body roll. After taking the dive from rider to instructor, Joanna has spent the last two years bringing a little extra hustle & heat to her classes to make each rider’s work-out as fun (and sweaty) as possible. “Easy doesn’t change you and we don’t wake up to give up.” A true believer in the power and intensity of the 45 minute cardio-class, she focuses on challenging her riders to push their limits. Off the bike, Joanna spends her days in the hospital, working as the Director of Marketing for a five-facility health system in Richmond, Virginia. Living life by a work-hard, play-hard mentality – you can find Joanna relaxing on the weekends with a bottle of red wine, eating taco bell, and watching her Hokies play some football.

Annie Deutsch

Annie Deutsch

Annie's first love of distance running brought her to TidalWheel. She was looking for a workout that would allow her to cross train and found Tidalwheel to be the perfect fit. Since beginning Tidalwheel as a part of her training, she has completed two marathons with personal record time! Annie will be graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Psychology. Her hope is to bring what she has learned on health behavior change into the fitness world. With her certification in Primary Group Exercise and her love of team and endurance training, her beautiful smile and bubbly personality will have you pushing your limits further than you thought possible! Annie loves being outside, her family, trying any new Richmond restaurants and most of all her weekly morning runs with her dad!

Catherine Soucie

Catherine Soucie

Dancer turned cyclist -- meet Catherine!  After graduating from Virginia Tech and retiring from the HighTechs Dance Team, Catherine searched for a way to combine her love of dance and fitness outside of her 9 to 5.  In 2013, Catherine fell in love with Tidal Wheel's "dance party on a bike" style and hasn't looked back since!  Catherine is group exercise certified and loves incorporating fun choreography and music into her classes.  She enjoys motivating her riders to reach their fitness goals, all while they jam out to their favorite songs!  When Catherine is off the bike, she works for a higher education consulting firm and enjoys cooking and traveling with her husband.  Join Catherine to for a high energy, full body workout!

Aimee Shaw

With a BS in Kinesiology and Fitness & Sports Mgt, Aimee has tried it all- from teaching group exercise classes and golf in college, to completing two half-marathons. Aimee began her love affair with the bike 2 years ago with spin classes and discovered her true passion back in September...TidalWheel!  She always pushes herself and her riders to excel on the bike. As a wife and mom to two AMAZING girls, and a trainer for a skin care company, Aimee loves to set the example to be your best you. Come jump on a bike and ride with her!

PS: Don't be surprised to hear a little bit of Bruce Springsteen during class!

Tana Mardian

Tana Mardian

After fellow instructor Mary took her to a class, Tana knew the Tidal Wheel studio was her new home. She may be a high school student by day, but she’s ready to pedal once the final bell rings. Going into her eighth year of hip-hop and fourth year of contemporary dance, Tana believes that she can bring her love of music and movement to the bike. “Tidal Wheel perfectly incorporates my passion for music and dance into an intense setting that I can share with anyone!” The environment of the studio is what grew Tana’s enthusiasm for cycling. The strong sense of empowerment and camaraderie that comes with every class is what brings her back to the studio day after day. If you are ready to sweat it out to some good tunes, snag a bike in Tana’s next class!
